About The Artist
Statement: I endeavor to create paintings filled with evocative questions, some about the art process itself and others about the world within and around me. "What technique can I use to convey a sense of mystery? What happened to the people who once lived behind those ancient, crumbling walls? Does this color combination make me want to shout with joy? What are the secrets hiding behind that enigmatic smile?"
My hope is that viewers will become involved as they look at the work. It may encourage them to engage in silent dialog; it may lead them to draw upon their own history, both experiential and emotional. When this happens, I have succeeded in my goal as an artist.

Teaching: Relaxed, open, and supportive, Susan approaches the painting process as an enjoyable experience. Her workshops and classes focus on individual expression and the development of a personal visual language. Instruction covers a full range of topics: drawing upon the masters for ideas about design and composition, choosing color combinations with the "zing" factor, exploring the transparency and opacity of watercolor, using collage for a highly personal statement, finding the abstract in everything around you. Individual instruction is also available. See the Contact page for information on how to reach Susan or email here.
